About this qualification

SIT50422 is the management qualification. The register describes “highly skilled senior operators” who combine hospitality skills with managerial ones, operate independently, carry responsibility for others and “make a range of operational business decisions”.

Twenty-eight units — eleven core and seventeen electives. That is more than twice the size of Certificate III, and it is the single largest packaging requirement of any qualification on this site so far.

The core is unmistakably managerial: budgets (two units), rostering, leading and managing people, monitoring work operations, managing conflict, establishing business relationships, legal risk and compliance, and implementing work health and safety practices. Only two of the eleven are customer-facing.

SITXGLC002 Identify and manage legal risks and comply with law is the unit that surprises people. A venue manager sits across liquor licensing, food safety, employment law and privacy — and the register treats that as core, not optional.

Frequently asked questions

Are there entry requirements?
No. The register records no entry requirements for SIT50422 — which surprises people, given its size.
Twenty-eight units is a lot. How long does it take?
That depends entirely on the provider and the mode. Duration is set by each provider, not by the register — ask for the training and assessment strategy before you enrol.
Can I get credit for a Certificate III?
Units you have already completed can be credited if they appear in this qualification’s packaging. Credit transfer and RPL are decided by the provider assessing you.
Does this cover cookery?
It can. Group B includes working effectively as a cook and planning cooking operations, and Group C carries cookery units — but SIT50422 is a management qualification, not a trade one.
