About this qualification
SIT40422 describes “skilled operators who use a broad range of hospitality service, sales or operational skills combined with supervisory skills” to “plan, monitor and evaluate the work of team members”.
They operate independently or with limited guidance and use discretion to solve non-routine problems — the register’s standard phrase for the point where someone stops escalating everything.
Twenty-one units: nine core, twelve elective. The core is where supervision becomes formal — rostering staff, leading and managing people, monitoring work operations, managing conflict, managing finances within a budget, and implementing and monitoring work health and safety practices.
Twelve electives is a large allowance for a Certificate IV, and the register says why: the qualification “allows for multi-skilling and for acquiring targeted skills in accommodation services, food and beverage, and gaming”.
