About this qualification
SIT30622 is the step from doing the work to being trusted with it. The register describes “well-developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations”, applied with “some independence and under supervision”.
Fifteen units: six core and nine electives — the largest elective load on the hospitality ladder below Diploma. The core adds two things Certificate II does not have: SITXCCS014 Provide service to customers (rather than simply interact with them) and SITXHRM007 Coach others in job skills.
That coaching unit is the tell. Certificate III is where a hospitality worker starts training the people around them, which is why it is the level most venues look for in a shift leader.
The qualification explicitly allows both multiskilling and specialisation — accommodation services, food and beverage, or gaming. Nine electives is enough room to go deep in one or stay broad across all three.

Frequently asked questions
- Are there entry requirements?
- No. The register records no entry requirements for SIT30622.
- Can I go straight to Certificate III without Certificate II?
- Yes — there is no prerequisite qualification. Whether it suits you is a different question, and providers will usually talk through your experience first.
- Does this make me a supervisor?
- It is the qualification most venues associate with supervision, and the core includes coaching others in job skills. But job titles and pay are set by employers and awards, not by the register.
- Can I specialise?
- Yes. Nine electives is enough to concentrate on accommodation services, food and beverage, or gaming — or to stay deliberately broad. Ask each provider which Group B and C units they deliver.
- Is cookery part of this?
- No. Commercial cookery is a separate qualification, SIT30821, with its own trade pathway.
