About this qualification
HLTWHS001 covers participating in safe work practices to ensure your own health and safety and that of others. Like CHCDIV001, the register casts it wide: it “applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety to carry out their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility”.
64,210 enrolments in Queensland in 2025, across 897 providers.
It is the HLT-package counterpart to the construction industry's CPCCWHS2001 and the resources industry's RIIWHS201E. Same idea, different sector, different code — and they are not interchangeable. Employers name the one their training package uses.
Assessment requires current workplace WHS policies and procedures and PPE relevant to the job role, either in the workplace or in a realistic industry-validated simulation.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this the same as the construction WHS unit?
- No. CPCCWHS2001 is the construction industry unit and RIIWHS201E is the resources one. Same idea, different training packages, different codes. Employers name the one their sector uses.
- Do I need it if I have a White Card?
- Different things. A White Card is CPCWHS1001, for construction site entry. HLTWHS001 is the health and community services WHS unit. Neither substitutes for the other.
- Is it a supervisor unit?
- No. The register describes workers under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility. Supervisory WHS sits higher, in units like BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
- Can I do it online?

- Across the HLT and CHC packages — aged care, disability, health services, community services.
