About this qualification

CPCCWHS2001 covers carrying out WHS requirements through safe work practices on and off construction sites. The register says it “covers fundamental WHS requirements necessary to undertake work tasks within any sector in the construction industry”.

It includes identifying hazardous materials, including asbestos. And the register is explicit about the limit: it does not cover removal of asbestos, which is a licensed activity. Identifying it is in scope; removing it is a separate licence entirely.

It sits inside 62 current qualifications across construction, plumbing, property services and civil work — second only to White Card among CPC units for reach.

It is not the White Card. CPCWHS1001 is the general construction induction that gets you site access. This is the deeper WHS unit that sits inside the trade qualifications.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the White Card?
No. The White Card is CPCWHS1001, the general construction induction that gets you onto site. CPCCWHS2001 is the deeper WHS unit inside the trade qualifications. Most construction workers end up with both.
Does it qualify me to remove asbestos?
No, and the register says so directly. The unit covers identifying hazardous materials including asbestos. Removal is a licensed activity governed separately by your state WHS regulator.
Where is it used?
In 62 current qualifications across construction, plumbing, property services and civil work — carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying, tiling, scaffolding, demolition and more.
Can I do it online?
Assessment must be in the workplace or a simulated workplace environment, with tasks performed to workplace proficiency and time limits. Ask the provider how they run it.
Is it the same as the resources WHS unit?
No. RIIWHS201E is the resources and infrastructure equivalent, and HLTWHS001 the health one. Different packages, different codes, not interchangeable.
