Frequently asked questions

Do I need it as a standalone course?
Usually not — it is embedded in 106 qualifications, so most people get it as part of something bigger. It is worth doing alone if an employer asks for it by code or you want the credit toward a future qualification.
Why is it in so many qualifications?
Because the register applies it to all workers. Community services, health, education, sport, hospitality and corrections qualifications almost all carry it.
Is it cultural awareness training?
It covers working respectfully across social and cultural groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and starts with reflecting on your own biases. Whether it meets a specific employer's cultural safety requirement is for them to say.
Can I do it online?
Skills must be demonstrated in the workplace or a simulation reflecting real working conditions. Ask the provider how they assess it.
Does it expire?
The unit does not expire. Employers may set their own refresher expectations.
