About this qualification
UEE32225 covers the competencies to “select components, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment” for food storage and preservation, and air conditioning and air distribution in buildings.
This qualification is measured in weighting points, not units. A total of 1,210 points: 1,070 core and 140 general elective. It is the largest packaging requirement anywhere on this site, and it reflects the depth of an electrical-adjacent trade.
It includes regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants. The register notes that competency development is “subject to regulations directly related to licencing”, and that a contract of training through an apprenticeship or relevant employment may be required.
Refrigerant handling licensing is administered separately by the Australian Refrigeration Council, not by the training package. The qualification builds the competency; the licence is its own process.

Frequently asked questions
- Are there entry requirements?
- No. The register records no entry requirements for UEE32225, though it notes a contract of training through an apprenticeship or relevant employment may be required to apply the skills on the job.
- What are weighting points?
- Some UEE qualifications are packaged by weighting points rather than unit counts, so that units of different size carry different weight. This one needs 1,210 points: 1,070 core and 140 elective.
- Does it give me a refrigerant handling licence?
- No. The qualification covers the regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants, but the licence itself is issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council through its own process.
- Is this a dual trade with electrical?
- It is commonly paired with UEE30820 Electrotechnology Electrician, and shares several core units with it. They are separate trades, not steps.
- Is it an apprenticeship?
- Usually. The register notes competency development is subject to licensing-related regulation and that relevant employment may be required.
