About this qualification

CPP50619 is for security risk consultants “who provide specialist advice on strategies to mitigate risk to people, property and assets including crowded places”. They work “with a high level of autonomy”.

It has a stated entry requirement, and it is a list of qualifications rather than an experience test: CPP40707 Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management, CPP40719 Certificate IV in Security Management, or CPP41519 Certificate IV in Security Risk Analysis. You come in from one of the two current Certificate IVs.

Ten units, five core, five elective — and the electives are wide open. Any training package, provided the unit contributes to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome and maintains the AQF level. That is unusually permissive, and it reflects how varied consulting work is.

Two of the core units deal with active threats: analysing the threat environment and devising strategies to respond, and implementing communication systems to respond. The other three build and run security risk management plans.

Frequently asked questions

What is the entry requirement?
The register lists three qualifications: CPP40707 Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management, CPP40719 Certificate IV in Security Management, or CPP41519 Certificate IV in Security Risk Analysis. CPP40707 is a superseded code; the two current pathways are CPP40719 and CPP41519.
Can I get in on experience instead?
The register states the entry requirement as qualifications, not experience. How a provider handles credit for prior learning toward those Certificate IVs is a question for them.
Which Certificate IV should I do first?
CPP40719 if you are coming from running security operations or a security business; CPP41519 if you are coming from analysis and advice. Both are accepted.
Why are the electives so open?
Any training package is allowed, provided the unit maintains the AQF level and contributes to a valid vocational outcome. Security consulting spans project management, compliance, research and communications, and the rules leave room for that.
Is this a licensing qualification?
No. The register notes that legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply in some states and territories to providing advice on security solutions and strategies. Check with the regulator where you practise.
