About this qualification

CPP41519 is for security risk analysts “who apply technical security and operations expertise in a risk management environment”. They “understand the current threat environment and assess risk and advise clients on strategies to ensure the protection of electronic security systems and people and property in crowded places”.

The register ties that last phrase to a specific document: crowded places as defined by Australia’s Strategy for Protecting Crowded Places from Terrorism (2017). It is unusual for a training package to name an external national strategy, and it tells you what this qualification exists to address.

Two specialisations, and the elective rules require you to take one whole group: security technology and systems, or crowded places.

The core is analytical throughout — assessing client security needs, conducting risk assessment of client operations, identifying threats and their impact, assessing vulnerabilities of assets, and establishing ethics and governance arrangements.

What it covers

5Core units
7Elective units

Twelve units must be completed: 5 core and 7 electives. The electives must include all 3 units within Group A or all 3 units within Group B, plus up to 4 units within Groups A, B or C not already selected, and up to 2 units from Group D. An elective may be selected from any training package, provided it contributes to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome and maintains the AQF level.

The 5 core units, required by everyone:

  • CPPSEC4003 Assess and advise on client security needs
  • CPPSEC4006 Conduct security risk assessment of client operations
  • CPPSEC4007 Identify security threats and assess impact on client operations
  • CPPSEC4012 Assess security vulnerabilities of assets
  • CPPSEC4022 Establish and implement ethics and governance arrangements for security businesses

Frequently asked questions

Are there entry requirements?
No. The register records no entry requirements for CPP41519.
What counts as a crowded place?
The register points to Australia’s Strategy for Protecting Crowded Places from Terrorism (2017) for the definition. It broadly covers places where large numbers of people gather — stadiums, transport hubs, shopping precincts, events.
Do I have to pick a stream?
Yes. The rules require all three units of Group A or all three of Group B before any other electives.
How does it differ from CPP40719?
CPP40719 Security Management runs operations and businesses. CPP41519 analyses threat and advises. Same AQF level, different job, and both lead to the Diploma.
Why so few providers?
Nineteen nationally. It is a specialist analytical qualification rather than a licensing pathway, so the market is small.
