About this qualification

CPP40719 serves two related audiences. Security supervisors “lead teams to coordinate and implement a range of security operations and functions such as control room, monitoring centre, electronic security and guarding”. Security business managers “coordinate security manpower and services to clients while operating under complex regulatory and contracting arrangements”.

Twelve units and only four are core, which is a very light core for a Certificate IV. The elective rules compensate: you take all of Group A or all of Group B, then top up.

CPPSEC4022 Establish and implement ethics and governance arrangements for security businesses is core, and it is the unit that marks the transition. Below this level you follow procedure; here you write it.

The register notes that legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply in some states and territories to the provision of advice on security. That sits with each jurisdiction's regulator, not with the qualification.

4Core units
8Elective units

Twelve units must be completed: 4 core and 8 electives. The electives must include all units within Group A or all units within Group B, plus up to 4 units within Groups A, B or C not already selected. An elective may be selected from Group D or from any training package, provided it contributes to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome and maintains the AQF level.

The 4 core units, required by everyone:

  • CPPSEC4001 Manage work health and safety in the security work environment
  • CPPSEC4003 Assess and advise on client security needs
  • CPPSEC4005 Facilitate security operations briefing and debriefing processes
  • CPPSEC4022 Establish and implement ethics and governance arrangements for security businesses

Frequently asked questions

Are there entry requirements?
No. The register records no entry requirements for CPP40719.
How does it differ from CPP41519?
CPP40719 is about running security operations and security businesses. CPP41519 Security Risk Analysis is about assessing threat and advising clients. Both are Certificate IV, and both feed the Diploma.
Only four core units?
Yes. The core is deliberately small because the elective groups carry the specialisation — you commit to a whole group rather than picking individually.
Do I need this to run a security business?
The register describes it as the qualification for security business managers, but business licensing is a matter for each state and territory regulator. Check the requirements where you operate.
What comes after this?
CPP50619 Diploma of Security Risk Management, which lists this qualification as one of its entry pathways.
