About this qualification
BSB30719 is written for someone who does safety work on top of their main duties — the leading hand who runs the toolbox talk, the supervisor who fills out the hazard report, the health and safety representative elected by the crew.
The register is direct about the level: hold this and you give technical advice and support to a team. You are not the safety manager. That sits higher up the same line, at Certificate IV and Diploma.
Eleven units all up: six core, five elective. Three of the five electives have to come from the listed group, so the qualification keeps its shape.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this enough to be a safety officer?
- Not on its own. This one is built for people doing safety work alongside another job. The Certificate IV is the first qualification aimed at safety as the job itself.
- Do I need it to be an HSR?
- No. Health and safety representatives are elected, and the training they are entitled to is a separate short course set by each state. Plenty of representatives do this qualification anyway, because it goes further.
- What is PUAFER001 doing in a business qualification?
- It is the emergency unit — spotting, preventing and reporting a facility emergency. It comes from the public safety package because that is where the emergency units live.
