About this qualification
HLTAID015 covers “the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy” to Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
It has a condition the others do not. The register states that evidence of the learner's currency, as required by the first aid codes of practice, must be confirmed prior to assessment. You cannot walk in off the street.
The scope goes beyond the rest of the family: two-rescuer resuscitation including oxygen, managing life-threatening bleeding, ensuring the environment is safe for oxygen delivery, and basic airway adjuncts assessed on an anatomical model.
391 providers — against 2,554 for Provide First Aid. It is a specialist unit for surf lifesaving, mine rescue, remote work, security and health support roles.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the currency requirement?
- The register states evidence of the learner's currency, as required by the first aid codes of practice, must be confirmed before assessment. In practice that means holding current first aid or CPR. Ask the provider what they will accept.
- Who actually needs this?
- Roles where advanced resuscitation equipment is on hand and help is far away — mine rescue, surf lifesaving, remote work, some security and health support roles.
- Does it replace HLTAID011?
- No. It adds advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy on top. Employers generally expect both.
- Why so few providers?
- 391, against 2,554 for Provide First Aid. It needs oxygen equipment, airway adjuncts and an anatomical model, which most first aid providers do not carry.
- How often should I refresh it?
- The unit does not expire, but the currency expectations that gate entry apply to keeping it useful too. Check with your employer and regulator.
