About this qualification
RIISS00056 is the designer set — the person who writes the traffic management plan everyone else works to. Two units, and both are senior.
RIICWD503E Prepare traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes is the craft itself.
RIIRIS402E Carry out the risk management process is the second, and it is the unit the resources industry knows as G2. The same unit appears across mining supervision, which makes this set an unusually portable pair.
Only two units, but they sit at AQF 4 and 5 level rather than the operator level below. This is a desk-and-site role, not a bat-and-vest one.

The traffic control ladder
Labourer, controller, implementer, designer. This is the top of it — and the road-type designer sets stack on top again.

Frequently asked questions
- Is RIIRIS402E the same as G2?
- Yes. RIIRIS402E Carry out the risk management process is what the resources industry calls G2. Note the E suffix — the plain code and the older D release are not current.
- Do I need to have been a controller first?
- The register sets no prerequisite. In practice designers generally come up through implementer roles, because writing a workable plan is hard without having put one on the ground.
- What about high volume roads and motorways?
- RIISS00064 covers high volume roads and RIISS00065 covers motorways and freeways — one additional unit each, stacking on this set. Both are thinly delivered: 27 and 26 providers.
- Is this a traffic engineering qualification?
- No. It is a two-unit skill set, not an engineering degree. It qualifies you to prepare traffic management plans and guidance schemes to the standard the units describe.
- Where else does G2 count?
- RIIRIS402E appears across RII supervision and mining. Holding it for traffic design carries into resources work, which is unusual for a traffic ticket.
