About this qualification

MEM30619 is a trade qualification in the proper sense. The register is unambiguous: it “defines the skills and knowledge required of a jewellery manufacture tradesperson” and “has been specifically developed for apprentices in the above trade”.

That has a consequence most people miss. The qualification “must be undertaken through a Training Contract associated with an Australian Trade Apprenticeship, or through formal trade recognition assessment processes”. You do not simply enrol in it the way you would a diploma — you either sign an apprenticeship, or you go through trade recognition on the strength of work you have already done.

It is also packaged by points, not by counting units. Ninety-six points to complete: 33 from the twelve core units, at least 40 from Group A, and no more than 23 from Group B.

Six registered training organisations hold it nationally. Five are TAFEs. The sixth is MinRes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just enrol in this?
Not in the usual sense. The register states MEM30619 must be undertaken through a Training Contract associated with an Australian Trade Apprenticeship, or through formal trade recognition assessment processes. If you are already working as a jeweller, trade recognition is the route to ask a provider about.
Why is it measured in points instead of units?
The MEM Manufacturing and Engineering package weights units by size rather than counting them. Ninety-six points completes MEM30619, and a single unit can be worth anything from one point upward — so two people can hold the same qualification having completed different numbers of units.
Only six providers deliver this?
Yes — five TAFEs and MinRes. Jewellery manufacture is a small trade and the training market reflects that, which makes provider choice far simpler here than in a field with hundreds of providers.
What are the entry requirements?
The register records no entry requirements for the qualification itself. The apprenticeship or trade recognition pathway is the practical gate.
What does it cost and how long does it take?
Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register. Apprenticeship arrangements also affect both.
