About this qualification
MEM40322 is the post-trade qualification for jewellers. The register describes “advanced jewellery manufacturing skills and knowledge required by a tradesperson”, applied across “metals, stones, woods, plastics and fibres”.
There are no formal entry requirements, but the register sets the expectation plainly: it is “assumed that the learner is either already a tradesperson with access to structured on and off-the-job training or is an apprentice under an Australian Apprenticeship arrangement”. This is a qualification for people already at the bench.
It is packaged by points rather than units — 132 points in total, of which the twelve core units contribute 33. The remaining 99 points come from four elective groups, which is a wide bank for a qualification this specialised.
One registered training organisation in Australia holds MEM40322. Not one in Queensland — one nationally.

Frequently asked questions
- Is there really only one provider?
- Yes. The national register lists a single provider with MEM40322 anywhere in Australia. If you want this qualification, that is the option.
- Do I need to be a qualified jeweller first?
- Formally, no — the register records no entry requirements. Practically, yes: it states the learner is assumed to be either a tradesperson with access to structured on and off-the-job training, or an apprentice under an Australian Apprenticeship arrangement.
- How is it different from the Certificate III?
- Same twelve core units, worth the same 33 points. The difference is entirely in the electives: 99 points at Certificate IV against 63 at Certificate III, drawn from a wider bank. It deepens the trade rather than redirecting it.
- Certificate IV or the Diploma?
- MEM40322 is manufacture — making things better at the bench. MEM50322 is design — client briefs, drawing, materials research, realising a body of work. They are different crafts, not sequential steps.
- What does it cost and how long does it take?
- Both are set by the provider and are not published on the national register.
