About this qualification

CPC31920 “provides a trade outcome in joinery covering work for residential and commercial applications”. The register names two occupational titles: Joiner and Stair builder.

Twenty-nine units — eighteen core and eleven electives, with a minimum of five electives from Group A. It is explicitly “suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway”.

The trade sits between carpentry and cabinet making. It shares carpentry tools, levelling, working at heights and plan reading with CPC30220, and adds the workshop units — computer-controlled machinery, static machines, manufacturing and assembling joinery components, and stair components for straight flighted stairs.

State and territory licensing differs. The register notes jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements, and directs you to the relevant state authority to confirm.

What it covers

18Core units
11Elective units

Twenty-nine units must be completed: 18 core and 11 electives. A minimum of five electives must be selected from Group A; the remaining units may come from any group or any current training package or accredited course, provided they contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome and maintain the AQF level. Some units carry prerequisites.

The packaging rules state 18 core units. The unit grid on the register flags 20 as essential; the twenty it flags are listed here, and the two-unit discrepancy is the register's, not ours. Confirm the exact core set with your provider.
