About this qualification

CHC50125 is where an educator stops delivering someone else's programme and starts designing it. The register describes educators “responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations”, who “may have responsibility for supervising” others.

Fifteen units — twelve core and three electives. The core moves from supporting children to running a service: maintaining a safe and healthy environment, fostering learning and development, nurturing creativity, facilitating compliance, positive interactions and behaviour, inclusion strategies, analysing information to inform learning, planning and implementing curriculum, embedding environmental responsibility, partnering with families, reflective practice, and managing team effectiveness.

This qualification has real entry requirements. The register requires CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, its equivalent successor, or CHC30113. You cannot start here — it is one of only a handful of qualifications in this directory with a hard gate.

CHCECE044 Facilitate compliance in a children's education and care service is core, and it is the unit that separates this from the Certificate III. At Diploma level you are accountable for the service meeting its obligations, not just for the children in your room.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enrol without a Certificate III?
No. The register states entry is open to individuals holding CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or its equivalent successor, or CHC30113. This is a hard entry requirement, not a provider preference.
Does CHC30125 count for entry?
It is the current successor to CHC30121, so it is the qualification most people will be entering with. Confirm with the provider, since the register names CHC30121 and CHC30113 explicitly.
What does the Diploma let me do that the Certificate III does not?
Design and implement curriculum, and take responsibility for service compliance. CHCECE044 Facilitate compliance is core here and absent at Certificate III, which is the clearest marker of the step up.
Can I get CHC50125 through RPL?
Often, yes, for experienced educators who never formalised the diploma. The entry requirement still applies, and practical assessment in a service is still required. Whether RPL is offered is decided by each provider.
What does it cost and how long does it take?
Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register. Mandatory work placement applies.
