About this qualification

CHC43015 is the aged care qualification that moves past personal care into service planning. The register describes support workers who “complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services” and “maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery”. Workers “may be required to demonstrate leadership”.

Eighteen units, and fifteen of them are core. You choose three. That is one of the most prescriptive structures in this directory, and it tells you the sector has a settled view of what this job requires.

Three core units name things the Certificate III leaves optional: CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia, CHCAGE004 Implement interventions with older people at risk, and CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach. Dementia, risk and palliative care are not electives here.

CHCAGE003 Coordinate services for older people is the unit that separates this from support work — at Certificate IV you are organising the care, not only delivering it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Certificate III in Individual Support?
No. CHC33021 with an Ageing specialisation is entry-level personal care. CHC43015 adds coordinating services, implementing interventions for people at risk, and managing legal and ethical compliance. It is eighteen units against fifteen, and far more prescriptive.
Do I need the Certificate III first?
No. The register records no entry requirements for CHC43015, though most students come with sector experience or the Certificate III behind them.
Does it cover dementia and palliative care?
Yes, both as core units rather than electives — CHCAGE005 for dementia support and CHCPAL001 for a palliative approach. That is unusual and reflects what aged care work actually involves.
Do I need a police check or NDIS screening?
Aged care providers require police checks, and additional screening applies depending on the setting. These are set by employers and Commonwealth aged care rules, not by the qualification.
What does it cost and how long does it take?
Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register. Work placement usually applies.
