About this qualification

This is CHC33021 packaged toward disability. The code on your testamur is the same, but the award line reads Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), and that bracket is what employers and the next qualification actually look for.

The difference is three units. Every student takes the same nine core units; the specialisation is decided by the six electives. Take all three Group B units and the specialisation is yours — skills development using a strengths-based approach, community participation and social inclusion, and working effectively in disability support. The remaining three electives come from Group C.

This matters more than the other specialisations. CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support has real entry requirements, and it names this specialisation by name. Finish CHC33021 without the disability bracket and the Certificate IV is closed to you until you make it up.

Every provider with CHC33021 can deliver it. Scope is recorded against the qualification, not the specialisation, so all 642 providers are available to you — but whether a given provider actually packages the disability electives is their choice. Ask.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a different qualification from CHC33021?
No. Same code, same nine core units, same providers. The specialisation is the six electives, and it prints on your testamur as Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability). On the register it carries the internal code CHC33021C.
Do I have to pick the specialisation before I enrol?
In practice yes, because it is decided by which electives your provider delivers. Ask before you enrol — changing later means completing units you skipped.
Which providers deliver the disability specialisation?
All 746 providers with CHC33021 are permitted to. Scope is recorded against the qualification, not the specialisation, so none are excluded. Whether a provider chooses to package the Group B electives is a separate question — ask them directly.
Why does this specialisation matter more than the others?
Because CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support requires it for entry, by name. The ageing specialisation does not open that door.
Can I add the ageing specialisation as well?
Yes, and it fits exactly. Taking all three Group A units alongside all three Group B units fills the six-elective allowance precisely, and the award becomes Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability).
