About this qualification

BSB60320 is for people who “provide leadership and support strategic direction in the human resources activities of an organisation”. The register names Human Resources Manager and Senior Human Resources Business Partner as the roles it maps to.

It also makes a practical observation worth repeating: in smaller organisations you may work across all of HR, while in larger ones you may manage a single function. The qualification is built to serve both.

Its entry requirement is the most specific in the BSB package. You must hold either BSB50320 Diploma of Human Resource Management or BSB50618 Diploma of Human Resources Management (or a superseded equivalent), or have four years of equivalent full-time relevant work experience — double what most Advanced Diplomas ask.

Six core units and only four electives, which is a tight ratio. The core covers organisational performance development, employee and industrial relations strategy, strategic workforce planning, organisational change, organisational finances and critical thinking.

For the remaining 1, up to 1 unit may come from that list or, if not listed there, from a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in this or any other currently endorsed training package or accredited course. Electives must be relevant to the work environment, maintain AQF alignment and contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is the entry requirement?
You must have completed BSB50320 Diploma of Human Resource Management or BSB50618 Diploma of Human Resources Management (or a superseded equivalent version), or have four years equivalent full-time relevant work experience.
Why four years and not two?
The register sets a higher experience bar here than for the general leadership and business Advanced Diplomas, which both ask for two. HR carries industrial relations and workforce planning responsibilities, and the entry requirement reflects that.
Why are there so few providers?
Thirty-two nationally. The entry requirement narrows the intake considerably, and HR at this level is a small market compared with the general business and leadership qualifications.
Does it cover industrial relations?
Yes — BSBHRM612 Contribute to the development of employee and industrial relations strategies is core.
Is there any licensing attached?
No. The register records no licensing, legislative or certification requirements for this qualification.
