About this qualification

BSB40820 covers marketing and communication in a wide variety of contexts. The register is unusually candid about who actually holds it: “individuals in full-time marketing roles, as well as those who are responsible for an organisation's marketing in addition to other duties”.

The core is six units and reads like a working brief: making presentations, articulating and debating ideas, undertaking marketing activities, analysing consumer behaviour, developing communications industry knowledge, and writing complex documents.

Two of the six core units are about communication rather than marketing — presenting, and debating ideas. The qualification treats being able to argue a position as a marketing skill.

Twelve units: 6 core and 6 electives, with 2 from Group A, 2 from Group B, and the last 2 from either group or from a Certificate III, IV or Diploma elsewhere.
