About this qualification

AUR20720 covers a limited range of tasks: identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems, plus minor maintenance and repair of a vehicle body. The register states directly that the range of technical skills and knowledge is limited.

It spans the whole automotive world, not one vehicle type — light vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, bicycles, marine craft and motorcycles. That breadth is the point of a preparation qualification.

Twelve units: 7 core and 5 electives, of which up to 2 may come from a Certificate I or II elsewhere. The elective bank runs to 73 units, so providers shape it towards whichever part of the industry they serve.

No licensing applies at this level. The trades sit above it: light vehicle, heavy commercial, automotive electrical and mobile plant are each separate Certificate III apprenticeships.
