About this qualification
RIISS00055 is the wider Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set: five units covering communication, risk management, working safely, implementing traffic management plans, and positioning and programming portable traffic control devices.
RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes is what separates an implementer from a controller. A controller works inside a zone; an implementer assesses the site and puts the plan on the ground.
As with the controller sets, there are two versions. RIISS00060 is the road-type-specific one for urban streets and low volume rural roads, at four units — it drops RIIWHS201E Work safely.
182 providers deliver this one; 200 deliver RIISS00060. Both are current.

Frequently asked questions
- How is this different from RIISS00060?
- RIISS00060 is the road-type version for urban streets and low volume rural roads, at four units. This one has five, adding RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures.
- What does an implementer do?
- Sets up and runs the work zone to a traffic management plan, and applies risk management to the site. A controller directs traffic within a zone already established.

- The register sets no formal prerequisite. Employers generally expect it, and the progression assumes it.
- What about high volume roads?
- RIISS00061 adds high volume roads and RIISS00062 adds motorways and freeways, both stacking on top.
- Does it cover writing the plan?
- No. Preparing traffic management plans is RIISS00056 or RIISS00063, the designer sets.
