About this qualification

SIR30216 covers people whose primary responsibility is “engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations”. They work with some independence under limited supervision, and some supervise other team members.

Thirteen units, and unusually the balance tips toward core: eight core to five electives. Retail has decided what a Certificate III holder must be able to do, and left less room to negotiate than most training packages.

The core covers the full customer arc — engaging them, assisting with difficulties, building loyalty, and selling — plus teamwork, working in a service environment, security risk, and work health and safety.

SIRXRSK001 Identify and respond to security risks is core, which sets retail apart. Theft, aggression and safe cash handling are treated as everyday parts of the job rather than specialist add-ons.
