About this qualification

SIR20216 covers “frontline retail team members who use a defined and limited range of operational skills”, on mainly routine and repetitive tasks under direct supervision.

Twelve units, seven core. The core covers engaging the customer, communicating to support team and customer outcomes, working in a service environment, organising personal work requirements, advising on products and services, identifying and responding to security risks, and contributing to workplace health and safety.

SIRXRSK001 Identify and respond to security risks is core here, as it is at Certificate III. Retail treats theft, aggression and safe cash handling as everyday parts of the job from the very beginning.

SIRXPDK001 Advise on products and services is the unit that distinguishes retail from generic customer service. Knowing the stock is the job.

Of the electives, 3 must come from the list in the qualification and 2 may come from that list, elsewhere in the SIR Retail Services Training Package, or any other current training package or accredited course. Elective choice must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity appropriate to AQF level 2.
