About this qualification

RII30420 is the plant operator's qualification — the people running the circuit after the material leaves the pit. The register describes “a broad range of skilled applications in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures”.

Its four core units are the common ground of any processing site: communicating in the workplace, identifying environmental and heritage concerns, applying risk management processes, and working safely under WHS policies. Nine electives then build the qualification around the plant you actually run — metalliferous processing, or coal preparation and treatment.

One of those cores carries beyond the plant. RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes is named by RSHQ among the competencies for a Site Senior Executive on a mine employing more than 10 persons.

Both. The register describes RII30420 as covering metalliferous processing facilities and coal preparation and treatment plants. Which one you end up qualified for depends on the nine electives your provider packages.
Can I get RII30420 through RPL?
Often, yes. Recognition of prior learning assesses experience you already have against each unit rather than retraining you in it — common for operators who have run a plant for years. Whether RPL is offered is decided by each provider.
What are the entry requirements?
None. The national register records entry requirements for RII30420 as “Nil”, though individual providers may set their own.
Are there licensing requirements?

Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register.
