About this qualification
ICT60220 is for people “who have significant experience in specialist technical skills, or managerial business and people management skills”, carrying out complex tasks “working independently, leading a team or a strategic direction of a business”.
Sixteen units — six core, ten elective. Smaller than the Diploma, because it assumes you arrive with the technical depth already and adds the layer above it.
The core says exactly that. Critical thinking for complex problem solving, managing team effectiveness, promoting cyber security awareness, interacting with clients on a business level, managing IP, ethics and privacy, and planning and monitoring business analysis activities.
As at Diploma level, the register names the sole trader and contractor path explicitly. This is as much a qualification for people running their own ICT consultancy as for people managing someone else’s team.

Frequently asked questions
- Are there entry requirements?
- No. The register records entry requirements as “Nil” for ICT60220, unlike the BSB Advanced Diplomas which set a hard requirement.
- Why is it smaller than the Diploma?
- Sixteen units against twenty. The register assumes significant prior experience and adds the leadership and business layer rather than re-teaching the technical base.
- Do I need the Diploma first?
- Not formally, but the register describes people with “significant experience”. Providers will assess whether you have it.
- Which specialisation has the strongest demand?
- Cyber security and advanced data management carry the most consistent demand; IT strategy and organisational development is the management path rather than a technical one. Ask providers which they deliver.
- What comes after this?
- In VET, nothing — this is the top of the ICT ladder. The usual next step is a bachelor degree or postgraduate study, often with credit for this qualification.
