About this qualification
HLT43021 is the step up from Certificate III allied health assistance. The register describes assistants providing “therapeutic and program related support” across “health, aged care, disability and any other settings where Allied Health Professionals provide services”.
Eighteen units, ten core. Two additions mark the level: HLTAHA047 Engage with clinical supervision and delegation, and CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern. At Certificate IV you are expected to manage the delegation relationship actively, and to handle situations the Certificate III would escalate.
Eight electives, and at least four must carry the HLTAHA code — a requirement that keeps the qualification anchored in allied health rather than drifting into general care.
Seven named specialisations appear on the testamur, from podiatry support to medical imaging support. These are genuinely different jobs with different professionals supervising them.

Frequently asked questions
- Which specialisation should I choose?
- The profession you want to work alongside. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics, podiatry, mental health and medical imaging are all separate streams, and the specialisation is printed on your testamur.
- How is it different from the Certificate III?
- Two core units in particular: engaging with clinical supervision and delegation, and responding effectively to behaviours of concern. At this level you actively manage the delegation relationship rather than simply work under it.
- Why must four electives be HLTAHA units?
- To keep the qualification anchored in allied health. Without that rule the electives could drift into general care and the specialisation would mean less.
- Do I need the Certificate III first?
- No. The register records no entry requirements for HLT43021, though most students come through the Certificate III or from related care work.
- What does it cost and how long does it take?
- Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register. Clinical placement applies.
