About this qualification
AHC51120 is unlike anything else in this directory: it has zero core units. Ten units of competency, all of them elective. There is no unit that every holder has in common.
The register describes “skilled and paraprofessional work in conservation and ecosystem management”, in “operational managerial and/or technical positions often with specialist skills”. The areas of specialisation it names are broad — Indigenous land management, ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation, conservation works, and parks management.
That structure is a deliberate response to how varied the field is. A person doing ecosystem restoration in a wetland and a person managing a national park share a profession but very little day-to-day practice, and the qualification declines to pretend otherwise.
It also means the provider matters more here than almost anywhere. With no core, the ten units a provider packages are the qualification. Ask what they deliver before you enrol.

What it covers
Ten units of competency: zero core plus ten electives. Elective units must maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
There are no core units. All ten come from the elective bank, so the units a provider packages are the qualification — ask for their list before enrolling.

Frequently asked questions
- Really no core units?
- Really. The register states the requirement as ten units of competency: zero core plus ten electives. It is the only qualification on this site structured that way, and it means two holders may share no units at all.
- How do I compare providers then?
- By the units they package. With no core, the elective set a provider offers determines what you actually learn and what the qualification is worth to an employer. Ask for the unit list before enrolling, not after.
- What areas can it cover?
- The register names Indigenous land management, ecosystem restoration, rehabilitation and renewal, conservation works, and parks management. The elective bank supports all of them, but no single programme will.
- Are there entry requirements?
- No. The register records no entry requirements for AHC51120.
- What does it cost and how long does it take?
- Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register. With only thirty-two providers, availability may matter more than price.
