About this qualification

SITHGAM022 covers providing responsible gambling services and assisting customers who may be at risk of, or already experiencing, harm from gambling.

The register defines the ground precisely: the two major forms are wagering (racing and sport) and gaming (gaming machines, table games, Keno and lotteries), and both are relevant to hospitality. Venues include hotels, motels, clubs, pubs and casinos.

In Queensland it usually travels with RSA. Venues with gaming machines generally want both SITHFAB021 and this unit, and both appear together in the SIT hospitality qualifications.

Assessment must happen in an operational gaming environment — a workplace or a simulated one — with current regulatory documents from state and territory gambling licensing agencies and an industry-realistic range of customers.

Skills must be demonstrated in an operational gaming environment — an industry workplace or a simulated industry environment set up for assessment. Assessment requires a facility where industry-realistic gambling activities occur, current regulatory documents and legislative publications from state and territory gambling licensing agencies, industry and organisational codes of conduct, policies, signage and brochures, and an industry-realistic range of customers.

The three elements of the unit.

  • Element 1 Implement responsible gambling practices
  • Element 2 Provide information and assistance to customers about responsible gambling

Frequently asked questions

Do I need RSG as well as RSA?
In a venue with gaming, usually yes. They are separate units covering separate legislation — alcohol and gambling — and gaming venues generally want both.
Does it expire?
The unit does not expire, but state and territory gambling licensing agencies set their own currency and approval rules. Check with the regulator where you work.
Does it cover wagering as well as machines?
Yes. The register names both wagering (racing and sport) and gaming (machines, table games, Keno, lotteries) as relevant to hospitality.
Can I do it online?
Assessment must be in an operational gaming environment, real or simulated, with an industry-realistic range of customers. Ask the provider how they meet that.
Is my interstate RSG valid?
Not automatically. Gambling regulation is state-based and recognition varies. Confirm with the regulator before relying on it.
