About this qualification
RIISS00059 is a single unit: RIIWHS207 Control traffic on high volume roads. It is the smallest skill set on this site.
It is an add-on, not a standalone. It assumes you already hold the urban and low volume controller ticket — RIISS00058 — and adds the high volume road capability on top. Sitting this on its own would leave you without the stop-slow bat and portable device units.
That stacking design runs right through the traffic family. Controllers, implementers and designers all have a base set plus road-type add-ons for high volume roads and for motorways and freeways.
115 providers deliver it, against 228 for the urban set. Roughly half the market steps up to high volume.
Roles it maps to
Context described on the national register.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I do just this one?
- You can enrol in it, but on its own it leaves you without the stop-slow bat and portable device units that make up the urban controller set. The register designs these to stack — hold RIISS00058 first.
- What counts as a high volume road?
- Road classification is set by the road authority in your state, not by the register. Ask the authority or principal contractor which classification applies to the site.
- What about motorways and freeways?
- Different again. There is no controller set for motorways, but the implementer and designer families both have motorway variants — RIISS00062 and RIISS00065.
- Are there entry requirements?
- The register records none formally, though the set assumes the urban controller capability in practice.
- Why is a one-unit skill set worth having?
- Because it is a named, nationally recognised statement of attainment that road authorities and contractors can ask for by code. A single unit on its own would not be.
