About this qualification

SHB30416 is the hairdressing trade qualification. The register describes hairdressers using well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills to provide a broad range of services, taking responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

The elective rule forces a choice. Of the 7 electives you must take all 3 units from Group A or all 3 from Group B — not a mix — plus 4 from Group C. That is unusual on the register and it means the two routes produce genuinely different hairdressers.

The colour work is heavily specified in the core: colouring and lightening, full and partial head highlighting, neutralising unwanted colours and tones, and on-scalp full head and retouch bleach treatments are four separate core units.

Cutting is broken into structures rather than styles — designing haircut structures, then one length or solid, graduated, layered, and over-comb techniques as separate units.

Is it an apprenticeship?
