About this qualification
HLT23221 covers workers who support the effective functioning of health services. The register places them clearly: completing tasks under supervision involving known routines, or routine and variable tasks in collaboration with a team.
Infection control is core. HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control is one of only four core units, alongside communicating in health or community services, working with diverse people, and workplace health and safety.
The register states plainly that no occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements applied to this qualification at the time of publication — unusual clarity for a health qualification.
Twelve units: 4 core and 8 electives, of which at least 7 must come from the listed bank. It is a common entry point into hospital support roles — catering, cleaning, orderly and supply work.
