About this qualification

FNS50222 is the accounting qualification above bookkeeping. The register names the roles: “tax agents, accounts payable and accounts receivable officers, payroll service providers, and employees performing a range of accounting tasks”.

Eleven units, seven core: financial and business performance information, tax documentation for individuals, budgets and forecasts, financial reports for corporate entities, internal control procedures, management accounting information, and complex spreadsheets.

It has real entry requirements. The register requires prior completion of FNSACC321 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports and FNSACC322 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers, or equivalents — both of which are core units of FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. In practice, the Certificate IV is the way in.

FNSACC522 Prepare tax documentation for individuals is core, and it is the unit that points at tax agent registration — which is granted by the Tax Practitioners Board, not by the training package.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start here without the Certificate IV?
Not usually. The register requires prior completion of FNSACC321 and FNSACC322 or equivalents, and both are core units of FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. If you hold those two units another way, ask a provider to assess them.
Does this make me a registered tax agent?
No. Tax agent registration is granted by the Tax Practitioners Board and requires specified education plus experience and other conditions. FNSACC522 Prepare tax documentation for individuals is core here because it forms part of that education — check the Board's current requirements.
Diploma of Accounting or Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping?
The Certificate IV is bookkeeping and BAS work. The Diploma adds corporate financial reporting, management accounting, internal controls and individual tax. The Certificate IV is also the prerequisite.
Can I get FNS50222 through RPL?
Often, yes, for people already doing the work. The prerequisite units still apply. Whether RPL is offered is decided by each provider.
What does it cost and how long does it take?
Both are set by each provider and are not published on the national register.
