About this qualification

FNS40821 is the qualification for finance and mortgage brokers. The register describes individuals who “work autonomously and exercise judgement in completing routine activities relating to mortgage and finance broking”.

Only 28 providers can deliver it — one of the smallest provider markets on this site for a qualification with this much demand. That is what a tightly regulated occupation does to supply.

The core is the compliance spine: preparing loan applications, identifying client needs and presenting broking options, and complying with financial services regulation and industry codes of practice.

The register flags licensing and regulatory considerations for the occupational areas this qualification covers. Credit licensing and industry association membership are separate from the qualification and must be checked with the relevant body.

Frequently asked questions

Is this enough to become a mortgage broker?
It is the qualification step. Credit licensing or authorisation under a licensee, and in practice industry association membership, are separate requirements — check with the relevant regulator and association.
Why do so few providers deliver it?
28 can deliver it. Tightly regulated occupations tend to have small provider markets, because the compliance burden on the provider is higher.
Is there a Diploma above it?
There is a Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management for those moving into broking management. This Certificate IV is the entry qualification.
Are there entry requirements?
The register records none — the entry requirement field reads 'Nil'.
How many providers deliver it?
28 providers can deliver it.
