About this qualification

AUR40226 covers “individuals who perform advanced diagnostic tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry”. It is a short, sharp post-trade qualification.

It has a real entry requirement. The register states you must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency. This sits on top of the trade, not beside it.

Ten units, and only one is core: AURTTA121 Diagnose complex system faults. Everything else is elective, chosen to match the systems you actually work on.

That structure is deliberate. Modern vehicle diagnosis splits by system — engine management, transmission, braking, electrical, hybrid and EV — and a single mandated set would suit nobody. The register names the destination and lets the electives find the route.

Frequently asked questions

What is the entry requirement?
You must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency. The provider assesses equivalence.
Which Certificate III counts?
An automotive mechanical one — AUR30620 Light Vehicle and AUR31120 Heavy Commercial Vehicle are the common routes. Ask the provider if yours is a less usual code.
Only one core unit at Certificate IV?
Yes. Diagnosis splits by system, so the register mandates the diagnostic capability and leaves the systems to electives.
Does it cover electric vehicles?
It can, through elective choice. AUR32721 Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology is the dedicated qualification if EV is the focus.
Is this the same as the old AUR40216?
AUR40226 replaced AUR40216. If you hold the older code, check the equivalence status on the register.
