Is this the same as RIIWHS202E?

The register flags it as equivalent. Four elements in both; the wording changed in the September 2026 release.

Is this the same as the WHS confined space unit in other packages?

No. Other training packages carry their own confined space units with their own codes. Employers name the code they require, so check which one is being asked for.

Does the unit authorise me to enter a confined space?

No. Entry is controlled by the employer's permit system under WHS regulations. The unit is the competency behind it.

About this qualification

RIIWHS202 replaced RIIWHS202E on 1 September 2026 and the register records the two as equivalent. Still four elements, with the wording tightened — the final element is now securing and cleaning up the confined space work area rather than a general clean up.

Confined space entry is regulated work. The unit is the training; the permit system, atmospheric testing and standby arrangements are the employer's.
