About this qualification

RIISS00134 replaced RIISS00034 on 1 September 2026. Two things changed beyond the code. The skill set was renamed from the Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set to the Surface Mine Safety Skill Set, dropping “Coal”.

And the first aid unit changed. RIISS00034 used RIIERR205D, the mining-scoped initial response unit. RIISS00134 uses HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, the general workplace unit. If a site or employer still names RIIERR205D, that is the old skill set — they are not interchangeable and the codes are worth checking rather than assuming.

Queensland coal mine site inductions are set by the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation and by individual sites, not by the register. Confirm with the site which skill set they require before you book.

Frequently asked questions

Is this still Standard 11?
Standard 11 is the Queensland coal mining induction, and the skill set behind it was RIISS00034 — the Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set. RIISS00134 drops “Coal” from the title and changes the first aid unit, so do not assume the two are interchangeable. Ask the site which one they require.
What changed from RIISS00034?
The title, and the first aid unit: RIIERR205D (mining-scoped initial response first aid) was replaced by HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid). The other five units are the same.
I did RIISS00034. Do I need to redo it?
That is a decision for the site and your employer, not the register. The two skill sets are not identical, and the first aid unit differs, so confirm rather than assume.
